Reflections

Our e-Portfolio for Grade 2 English for Common and Proper Nouns was a great experience to learn from. Initially, we weren’t sure how we should start our e-portfolio and organize our teaching materials onto Google Sites. We had to take time to plan out each part of our e-portfolio including our cover page, learning objectives, introduction, lesson plan, powerpoint, worksheets and reflection. Through this, we have learnt that creating an e-portfolio is not just a requirement of school but a way to showcase our progress as future elementary teachers through a digital format. We have learnt how to create lessons that match with the Grade 2 common/proper noun first quarter competency. We made sure that our examples and activities were simple and easy to understand by reviewing the self-learning module. We have also learnt how to use technology such as Google Sites, Google Docs and Powerpoint to create teaching resources. We have also learnt that if we organise our resources well then it will be easier for the teacher to find. There were some challenges along the way. We had to edit our work multiple times to make the sentences shorter so that they are easier to understand for Grade 2 pupils. We also had to make sure that everything was related back to our topic which was nouns. By working as a team we have learnt to listen to each other’s ideas, split up our tasks and help each other through tough parts. This project has helped us realise that as a teacher you need to plan your lessons very carefully. We have learnt how to think about what young children need to know and how to make their learning fun by using simple images and activities. We have also learnt how important it is to reflect on our work to see what we have done well and what needs improvement. In the future we will keep practicing how to create better teaching resources and e-portfolios. Hopefully our lesson and resources will help Grade 2 pupils to understand and enjoy learning about common and proper nouns. This e-portfolio is our first step into becoming patient, creative and prepared elementary teachers.

When we were assigned to design an e-portfolio for Grade 2 English lesson (common and proper nouns), I was assigned to arrange everything in our e-portfolio. My groupmates were responsible for designing the lesson plan, powerpoint and activities. I was responsible for setting up each page for our Google Sites e-portfolio. At first, I thought that an e-portfolio would only require me to upload my files. However, I realised that an e-portfolio is a way for us to show our growth as future teachers. I went through the Grade 2 self learning module multiple times to make sure that all of our resources were relevant to the lesson objectives in the first quarter. I also learnt how to name my artefacts clearly so that anyone looking at our e-portfolio would be able to easily find our lesson plan, powerpoint and worksheets. I struggled with a few parts. I had to figure out where to put my acknowledgements, dedications and reflections. I also had to make sure that all of our group's resources were simple and suitable for Grade 2 learners. If some of my explanations were too long, I asked my groupmates to simplify them so that the younger students would be able to easily understand. Overall, I realise how important it is for teachers to have digital skills. Using technology allows us to store our lesson plans and easily share them. I also learnt how to thoroughly analyse my work and take note of what I did well and what I can improve on for my next portfolio/lesson plan. In the future, I will make my teaching resources neater and earlier. I'm glad that our group created resources that can help Grade 2 children learn about common and proper nouns. This has shown me that to be a good teacher you need to work with others, be organised and always think about how to make your lessons clear.

Creating our E-Portfolio about English Grade 2, particularly the lesson about nouns and common nouns, was a meaningful learning experience for me. While working on this activity, I learned more about the importance of nouns and how they are used in our everyday communication. I also realized that even simple topics can help young learners improve their vocabulary and understanding of the English language. As I worked on the E-Portfolio, I learned how to organize learning materials and present information in a creative and understandable way. It also helped me become more familiar with making educational materials that are appropriate for young learners. There were some challenges along the way, but I was able to learn from the process. Overall, this activity helped me understand that teaching is not only about explaining lessons but also about finding simple and creative ways to make learning easier and more enjoyable for students. As a future teacher, I hope to apply what I learned in creating lessons that will help my future learners understand and enjoy learning English.
THANK YOU!
